Even though I double checked I wouldn't be working with monkeys before I left England, and I was assured I wouldn't be, they now want me to. But I didn't have the right rabies vaccination so I can't (how unfortunate! Monkeys give me the creeps). I think I am going to be working on a reserve which has educational activities for children - which means it can't be too dangerous. They also run workshops for the local communities, and I will be helping with these as well as maintenance of the trails and educational guides they use. Should be quite interesting. I'm also doing something with birds, which doesn't sound too bad! The only problem is I've been given a load of resources I have to take with me, and seeing as I struggled to fit everything in my bag when I came to Bogota I have no idea how I'm going to manage tomorrow!
Other news from this week . . .
The guy from Belgium continued to entertain everyone, and then was shocked when someone said he wouldn;t get coco leaves through customs at Miami airport! A few new people arrived that day. A maths teacher from England moved into my room - she was lovely but a bit hyper. We went out for dinner last night, which was nice.
On Wednesday I went for lunch with my student and her family. Typically, the buses were running very slowly and I was very late - every other day this week I've got there really early and had nearly 2 hours to kill before I start teaching! They were really nice. Her husband is a physics teacher and I managed to talk to him for quite a while in Spanish - its actually easier if they don't speak any English because they don't just result to telling you in English. After the class she took me to try and buy a new plug converter - I'd dropped mine and it wasn't working. Eventually we found one but it was ridiculously expensive! I didnt bother getting it and just borrowed someones from the hostel. Then on Thursday I actually managed to find one by myself!
Friday was my last day of Spanish class and my last day of teaching. I went for lunch with my Spanish class. We didn't have a clue what we had ordered, and ended up with a whole fish again! I'm getting the hang of eating it now!
English lessons were good - we played lots of games and I had to have lots of photos taken again! I was supposed to be going for dinner with one of them after the class, but they never turned up which was annoying because I had cancelled doing something with people from the hostel and by the time I got home they had already gone out! So just had dinner with the maths teacher.
I saw Laura (the organiser) yesterday and she invited me to her friend's party tonight, but she can't go. It sounds like fun - a Colombian style barbeque, but I don't want to go on my own seeing as she won't even be there, and the hostel is now empty. I will have to see if anyone new arrives.
Need to go and attempt to pack now, and then get some dinner.
Here are some pictures of my students:
